Milltown is a progressive bluegrass band with traditional roots. The band hails from the Quad-Cities on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River between Iowa and Illinois. The band takes its name from one of the local communities, Moline, which roughly translates from French to English as “Milltown.”
Milltown has played alongside such bands as The Henhouse Prowlers, Colorado natives Head For The Hills, West Coast favorites Hot Buttered Rum and the Steep Canyon Rangers, Steve Martin’s band.
In addition to playing clubs and festivals, Milltown helps anchor the Bucktown Revue, a monthly show in the flavor of “A Praire Home Companion” that performs at 7 p.m. the third Friday of the month, September through May, at the Nighswander Junior Theatre in Davenport, Iowa. Milltown also hosts Mandolin Junction, the monthly bluegrass jam at the River Music Experience in Davenport, Iowa.
Milltown’s performs a mixture of originals, bluegrass and old-time tunes, with occasional forays in other directions with originals that make their show unique and high energy.
Milltown’s lineup includes Robert Rosenstiel on upright bass, Michael Romkey on mandolin, Korah Winn on vocals and guitar, Matt Manweiler on five-string fiddle. Each member brings to the table a diverse background in music ranging from Bill Monroe to Bach.
The band’s influences include Bill Monroe, John Hartford, Flatt & Scruggs, The Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek, Yonder Mountain String Band, Avett Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Greensky Bluegrass, Ralph Stanley, Tony Rice, Old & In The Way, Garcia/Grisman, Sam Bush, Del McCoury, Bela Fleck, Alison Kraus, New Grass Revival, Hot Rize, Tim O’Brien, Peter Rowan, Sam Bush and Doc Watson.
